Upholstery Cleaning in East London (E)
Your sofa takes more daily wear than almost anything else in the house: hand oils on the armrests, crumbs down the back of the seat cushions, pet hair worked into the weave and the occasional spilled glass of something red. Our upholstery cleaning in East London lifts that build-up from sofas, armchairs, dining chairs and headboards. We choose the method to suit your fabric, and we work in homes and businesses across all E postcodes.
Send us a few photos of the piece, plus the care label if you can find it, and we’ll come back with a free, no-obligation quote. Call 020 3947 0917 or get a quote online.
What we clean on sofas, armchairs and chairs
A proper sofa clean covers every part of the piece, including the areas nobody sees. On a typical visit we’ll:
- Vacuum the whole piece thoroughly, including the crevices, under the seat cushions and along the piping where grit collects
- Pre-treat heavily used areas such as armrests, headrest zones and the front edge of seat cushions, where body oils darken the fabric
- Spot-treat marks we’ve discussed with you beforehand, such as food, drink, make-up or ink
- Clean the fabric with a method matched to its fibre and care code
- Groom the pile so velvet and chenille dry evenly and don’t leave flattened patches
- Clean both sides of loose cushions where the fabric and construction allow
Beyond sofas and armchairs, we also clean dining chair seats, footstools, ottomans, fabric headboards, office chairs, reception seating and banquette seating in cafés and restaurants. If you’re having the floors done at the same time, our carpet cleaning can go in the same visit, so the room only gets disrupted once.
Which cleaning method suits your fabric
The care label decides the method, and we’ll always check it before anything touches the fabric. Most upholstery carries one of these codes:
- W: water-based cleaning is suitable, usually with hot water extraction
- S: solvent-based cleaning only, because water can leave rings or shrink the fibres
- WS: either method can be used, with care
- X: vacuum only, so the piece needs a specialist or the manufacturer’s advice
Cotton and linen can brown or shrink if they’re over-wetted. Viscose and some velvets mark easily and need a low-moisture approach. Wool takes moisture reasonably well but dislikes high heat. Microfibre usually cleans up nicely, but the type matters: some respond to water and others need solvent.
We test a hidden patch first, such as the back of the base or under a cushion, to check for colour run or texture change. If the test isn’t right, we’ll stop and talk to you before going any further.
Stains, pet hair and odour removal: what’s realistic
Most everyday soiling comes out well. Grey armrests, food marks and general dullness usually respond to the right pre-treatment and a careful clean.
Stain removal can’t be promised, though. Older marks and anything that’s been “treated” with household products or heat are much harder to shift. Ink, dye transfer from jeans, bleach marks and sun fading may lighten but often won’t disappear completely. We’ll tell you honestly what we expect before we start.
For pet hair, we remove as much as possible with specialist tools before any wet work. Wet hair clogs into the fibres and becomes much harder to lift. Odours such as smoke, damp towels and general pet smell usually improve a lot. Pet urine is different. If it has soaked through to the foam, cleaning the fabric surface may not fully remove the smell, and replacing the cushion inner can sometimes be the real fix. We’ll say so if we think that’s the case.
Jobs we’ll agree separately or advise against
A few situations need a different conversation:
- Leather and faux leather use a separate clean-and-condition process. Tell us what you have when you enquire.
- Antique, silk or hand-finished pieces may be better suited to a specialist restorer.
- X-coded fabrics won’t be wet-cleaned. We can vacuum them and advise you on next steps.
- Mould from a leak or a damp room keeps coming back until the cause is fixed. Cleaning the fabric won’t solve a damp problem.
- Suspected bed bugs need pest control first.
- Torn fabric, split seams or collapsed foam are repair jobs rather than cleaning jobs.
Mattresses are cleaned differently from sofas, so we quote them separately. Our mattress cleaning page explains how that service works.
How a visit works
- Send details. Tell us how many pieces you have, the fabric type and care label, and what’s bothering you, whether that’s stains, smell or general dirt. Photos help us quote accurately.
- Agree the scope and price. We’ll confirm what’s being cleaned, which marks we’ll target and any extras, with the price agreed upfront.
- Arrange access. Let us know about parking, stairs, lifts, pets and key collection. Clear small items off and around the furniture before we arrive.
- Test and clean. We check the label, run a patch test, vacuum, pre-treat and clean.
- Final check. We walk through the agreed tasks with you, or we send photos if you’re out. If anything in scope has been missed, let us know promptly so we can arrange to put it right.
We bring all the equipment and products. If anyone in the house has allergies or sensitive skin, tell us beforehand. Eco-friendly products are available on request, and we’ll check that they suit your fabric.
Drying times after upholstery cleaning
Drying times usually run from a few hours up to overnight, depending on the fabric, the method used, the thickness of the cushions and how much air is moving through the room. Low-moisture and solvent cleans dry fastest. Thick feather-wrapped cushions after hot water extraction take longest.
To speed things up:
- Open windows or run a fan, especially in newer flats with sealed windows
- Keep the heating on gently rather than high, because strong direct heat can distort some fabrics
- Stand loose cushions on their edges so air reaches both faces
- Keep pets and children off the furniture until it’s fully dry
- Avoid dark clothing on light fabric while it’s still slightly damp
If you need the sofa back the same evening, mention it when you book. We’ll aim for a lower-moisture method where the fabric allows.
What affects the price
Every quote reflects your actual job. The main factors are:
- The number and size of pieces, from a single armchair to a corner sofa with chaise
- Fabric type and whether it needs a solvent or specialist method
- Condition, such as heavy soiling, pet hair or long-standing marks
- How many stains need targeted treatment
- Access, including stairs without a lift and parking restrictions
- Any carpets, rugs or mattresses you add to the same visit
You’ll find general guidance on our pricing page, and we’ll always confirm your price before booking.
Cleaning upholstery in East London homes and businesses
Much of East London is controlled parking, so please tell us if there’s a permit bay, a resident’s visitor permit or a loading spot nearby. In top-floor flats and converted terraces without a lift, we carry the equipment up, so stairs are no problem. We just need to know about them for timing.
Pets are welcome. We’d only ask that they’re kept in another room while we work, both for their sake and so hair doesn’t land on damp fabric. If you can’t be home, keys can be left with a neighbour or concierge, or in a key safe, as long as we’ve agreed it in advance.
For offices, waiting rooms and cafés across East London, we can work early or after closing where possible, so seating has time to dry before customers arrive. Fabric office chairs and reception sofas often need cleaning most around the seat front and armrests, where hands and clothing rub all day.
What customers say
“Our grey sofa had gone almost brown on the arms and I’d given up on it. They checked the label, tested under a cushion and it came up far better than I expected. One old coffee mark is still faintly there, which they’d warned me about.” Hannah R., Walthamstow, sofa cleaning
“Two dogs and a cream fabric armchair. Enough said. The hair removal alone was worth it, and the doggy smell has gone.” Marcus O., Leytonstone, pet hair and odour removal
“Had the reception chairs and a waiting area sofa cleaned on a Friday evening so they were dry for Monday. They sent photos once they’d finished, which helped since I wasn’t on site.” Aisha K., Stratford, office upholstery cleaning
“Velvet sofa, very nervous about it. They used a low-moisture method and brushed the pile properly afterwards. No water marks.” Tom B., Bow, fabric cleaning
Upholstery cleaning FAQs
Can you deep clean a sofa and armchairs in one visit?
Yes. We often clean a full three-piece suite in one visit. The time depends on the fabric, the condition and how many stains need treatment, and we’ll give you an idea of timing when we quote.
Is your cleaning safe for delicate fabrics?
Usually, yes, as long as we know what the fabric is. We check the care code, patch test first and use low-moisture or solvent methods for fabrics such as viscose, linen and some velvets. X-coded or antique pieces may need a specialist instead.
Will every stain come out?
No, and nobody can honestly promise that. Fresh and everyday marks often come out completely, while old, heat-set or dye-based stains may only lighten. We’ll give you a realistic view before we start.
Can I remove the cushion covers and wash them myself?
We’d advise against it. Even zipped covers can shrink or fade in a washing machine and then no longer match the frame. Cleaning them in place keeps the fabric consistent across the whole piece.
Do I need to be home during the clean?
No. We just need access and a clear plan for keys and pets. Many customers across E leave keys with a neighbour or concierge.
Will my sofa smell of chemicals afterwards?
Usually not. There may be a faint clean smell while it dries, which fades with good ventilation. Unscented or eco-friendly options are available on request.
Do you cover my postcode?
We cover homes and businesses across East London and the wider E area. Send us your postcode and we’ll confirm.
