Carpet Cleaning in East London (E)
Carpets hold more than they show: grit trodden in from the front door, a wine mark you’ve hidden under the coffee table, a pet smell you’ve stopped noticing but visitors haven’t. Our carpet cleaning in East London lifts that embedded dirt with hot water extraction, treats spots and traffic lanes properly, and leaves carpets fresher in homes, rentals and businesses across E. Send us a few photos or give us a call, and we’ll come back with a clear quote.
What happens during a proper carpet clean
Most of the real work happens before any water goes down. Here’s what we do on a standard visit:
- Dry vacuum first. We go slowly with a strong machine to pull out loose grit and hair. Wet dirt turns to mud in the pile, so this step matters.
- Inspect the carpet. We check the fibre type, loose seams, existing wear and each stain, and we’ll tell you then if something is unlikely to shift.
- Pre-treat traffic lanes. Hallways, the path to the sofa and the patch by the back door get a pre-spray suited to the fibre, left to work before extraction.
- Spot-treat stains. Tea, grease and mud each need a different product. We match the treatment to the mark and the carpet.
- Hot water extraction. A heated cleaning solution is rinsed through the pile and pulled straight back out by powerful suction, taking loosened soil with it.
- Groom and check. We brush the pile so it dries evenly, walk the rooms with you, and give you drying advice.
Steam cleaning or hot water extraction?
In practice they’re the same job. “Steam carpet cleaning” is the familiar name, but the machine uses hot water rather than true steam. The difference you’ll notice is against hire machines: they tend to leave carpets wetter, dry slower and leave soapy residue that attracts dirt again within weeks. Our extraction kit recovers far more water, which suits the fitted synthetic and wool-blend carpets we mostly see in East London flats and terraces.
Tough stains and pet odours: what we can realistically shift
Fresh, water-based stains usually respond well. Coffee, tea, juice, mud and many food spills often improve dramatically or disappear. Older, set-in marks are a different story, and we’d rather tell you honestly at the inspection than overpromise.
Stains that may only lighten, or not move at all:
- Hair dye, fake tan and some inks
- Nail varnish and paint
- Rust marks from furniture legs
- Bleach marks, which are colour loss rather than a stain
- Marks a previous spot cleaner has already set or spread
If something gets spilled before we arrive, blot it with a clean white cloth and cold water. Don’t scrub, and don’t experiment with bleach or vinegar mixes. Rubbing frays the pile and home remedies can fix the colour in.
Pet urine is the hardest smell to deal with because it doesn’t stay on the surface. It runs through the backing into the underlay. We use enzyme-based treatments worked down into the affected areas, which often makes a big difference. Where urine has soaked the underlay over months, though, the lasting fix can be lifting the carpet and replacing that section of underlay, which is a fitter’s job rather than ours.
Extras and jobs that need a different approach
Some things are quoted on top of the standard room clean, and some aren’t a cleaning job at all.
Quoted separately:
- Stairs and landings, which take longer than their floor area suggests
- Rugs, assessed by fibre and construction
- Heavy stain or odour treatment across large areas
- Sofas and armchairs through our upholstery cleaning service
Not suitable for wet extraction: silk, viscose (often sold as “art silk”), jute, sisal, seagrass and coir. Water can shrink, brown or permanently distort them. We’ll say so if a rug needs a specialist rug cleaner instead.
When cleaning isn’t the answer: carpet that’s damp from a leak, rising damp or a flood needs the water source fixed first, and sewage contamination is a restoration and insurance matter. Mould on the backing, moth damage, burns, fraying and worn-flat traffic lanes can’t be cleaned away either.
Moving furniture and getting the room ready
We’ll move light pieces such as dining chairs, coffee tables, side tables and small units, then set them back on protective pads or foil tabs so legs don’t mark the damp pile.
We won’t move wardrobes, beds with storage drawers, pianos, loaded bookcases, fish tanks or anything with complicated cabling. We’ll clean around them, or you can clear the space before we arrive.
Before the visit, it helps to:
- Lift toys, shoes, bags and cables off the floor
- Clear under beds if you want those areas done
- Move ornaments and anything fragile off low surfaces
- Tell us about pets, allergies or any carpet you’re unsure of
You don’t need to vacuum. We do that ourselves.
Parking and access: many E streets sit in controlled parking zones. Let us know about visitor permits, pay-and-display bays or a loading spot, as the machine works best close to the door. For upper-floor flats, tell us about lifts, stairs and concierge arrangements. We’ll need a working tap and a power socket.
How long does carpet take to dry after cleaning?
Usually a few hours, sometimes longer. Thick wool pile, cold weather and closed-up rooms all slow things down, and a chilly winter afternoon in an older East London terrace takes noticeably longer than a warm, breezy flat in summer.
To speed drying:
- Open windows if the weather allows
- Keep the heating on low
- Run a fan if you have one
- Keep pets and shoes off until it’s dry
- Leave furniture on its pads until the carpet feels dry to the touch
Planning around a move or an inventory check? Book the carpets a day or two ahead rather than the morning of the appointment.
Tenancies, offices and shops
Tenancy agreements often specify professional carpet cleaning, so check yours and keep our invoice. We’ll work to the inventory notes and can combine carpets with a full end of tenancy clean so everything is finished in one visit. We can’t promise a deposit outcome, because wear, damage and the landlord’s judgement sit outside any cleaner’s control.
For offices and shops across East London, we can schedule carpets early or after closing where availability allows. Desk chairs and bins get moved, entrance mats and reception areas get extra attention, and we’ll agree drying arrangements around your opening time.
How booking works
- Tell us about the job. Rooms, rough sizes, carpet type if you know it, stains, pets and photos where you can.
- We agree the scope and price upfront. You’ll know exactly what’s included and what isn’t before anything starts.
- We confirm access. Keys, a concierge, a neighbour holding a spare, parking and arrival time are all settled in advance.
- We clean and check with you. We walk the rooms together at the end and point out anything that didn’t fully shift.
- Spot something we missed? If an agreed area was missed, contact us promptly and we’ll arrange to put it right. We’ll confirm the reporting window when you book.
What changes the price of carpet cleaning?
People often ask for a price per room. We can quote that way for standard rooms, but a long through-lounge isn’t the same job as a box room. The main factors are:
- Number and size of rooms, plus any stairs and landings
- How soiled the carpet is and how many stains need treating
- Pet odour work
- Fibre type and any delicate rugs
- How much furniture needs moving
- Parking and access
- Combining carpets with other cleaning on the same visit
Our pricing page explains how quotes are put together. For an exact figure, photos are the quickest route.
What our customers say
“Our hallway and stairs had gone grey from the buggy wheels. They’re back to the colour we picked. The cleaner told us upfront that one old ink mark probably wouldn’t come out, and he was right, but it’s much fainter now.” Hannah R., Walthamstow, carpet cleaning
“Booked carpets alongside our end of tenancy clean. Keys were left with the concierge and everything was done by the time I collected them. The bedroom was still slightly damp, so I’d book a day earlier next time.” Tomasz K., Stratford, carpet cleaning
“Two cats and a spare room carpet I’d given up on. The smell is mostly gone. They were honest that the underlay in one corner needs replacing, which I appreciated.” Amira B., Leytonstone, pet odour treatment
Carpet cleaning FAQs
Do I need to vacuum before you arrive? No. We dry vacuum every area ourselves as the first step.
Will every stain come out? Not always. Most fresh spills respond well, but dyes, bleach marks and old set-in stains may only lighten. We’ll tell you what to expect before we start.
How soon can we walk on the carpet? Usually straight away in clean socks, though it’s best kept to essential trips until it’s dry. Avoid outdoor shoes and keep pets off until then.
Can you remove pet urine smells? Often the smell is greatly reduced. Where urine has soaked the underlay, replacing that section may be the only full fix.
Do you move furniture? Yes, light pieces. Heavy, fragile or cabled items stay put and we clean around them.
Are your products safe around children and pets? Yes, once the carpet is dry. Eco-friendly options are available on request, and we check suitability for your carpet first.
Do you clean rugs? Many wool and synthetic rugs, yes. Silk, viscose and natural plant-fibre rugs need a specialist.
