Cleaning Insurance in East London: How We Protect Your Home and Premises
Every Cleaning East London cleaner is vetted and insured, and we can confirm the relevant cover before your first visit. This page covers our cleaning insurance in East London, how we choose the people we send into homes and workplaces, the paperwork commercial clients can ask for, and what happens if something gets damaged.
Most people only think about insurance once a vase is in pieces. We’d rather you knew how it works before anyone picks up a cloth.
Are your cleaners insured?
Yes. Our cleaning services across the E postcodes are carried out by vetted, insured cleaners. That applies to a fortnightly clean of a flat in Bow, a one-off deep clean of a terraced house in Walthamstow and an evening office clean in Canary Wharf.
The main protection for most customers is public liability cover. In plain terms, it deals with accidental damage to your property, or injury to someone else, caused by our work. A cleaner knocking a framed print off the wall while dusting a picture rail is the sort of thing it exists for.
We don’t publish cover amounts on this page. Policies and limits get reviewed, and a figure on a website can go out of date. If you need the details, ask and we’ll confirm what’s in place for your job.
How do you vet the people coming into my home?
We check the people we send before they work for our customers. For you, that means the person who arrives has been checked, briefed on your job and knows what’s expected of them.
Vetting is only part of it. A cleaner also needs to know how to work in someone else’s home:
- Following the agreed checklist. Your cleaner works to the tasks we agreed with you. They don’t decide on the day to try something new on your marble worktop.
- Asking when unsure. If there’s an unfamiliar surface or a stain that looks like it could spread, a good cleaner stops and checks.
- Respecting private space. Drawers, paperwork and personal belongings stay as they are unless you’ve asked us to tidy or clean inside them.
- Reporting problems straight away. A cracked tile found under a bath mat, or a breakage during the visit, gets reported. It doesn’t get hidden.
Employee vetting in East London matters most where people are trusted with keys, alarm codes and empty homes. That covers tenants who’ve moved out, landlords managing several flats and office managers who leave a building to an evening cleaning team.
Can I see proof of insurance before booking?
You can. Proof of insurance is available on request, and plenty of customers ask for it. We hear it most from:
- Letting agents and landlords booking a clean between tenancies
- Managing agents arranging communal cleaning in blocks with a residents’ association or freeholder to answer to
- Businesses whose premises insurer or landlord asks contractors for evidence of cover
- Homeowners who simply want to see it, which is fair
Ask when you request a quote, or email info@cleaning-east-london.co.uk. Tell us who the document needs to go to, such as a building manager or facilities team, and any deadline you’re working to.
What paperwork do commercial clients need?
Commercial work often comes with a site induction and a document request. Retail units, gyms, schools and offices in shared buildings often have rules about contractors.
The usual compliance documents in East London include:
- Proof of insurance, usually public liability, sometimes with the client’s name noted
- Risk assessments covering the hazards on your site: wet floors in a busy entrance, stairwells, plant rooms, out-of-hours lone working
- Method statements explaining how a task will be done safely, for example a kitchen deep clean or high-level dusting
- Product information for the chemicals we’ll use, so your team knows what’s being used on site
Talk to us about what your building needs before work starts. We’ll confirm what we can provide and agree the scope around it. For larger or ongoing insurance-backed commercial cleaning contracts, we may suggest a walkthrough first. That’s how we spot access issues, alarm procedures and surfaces that need care.
If you manage several properties or sites, our partnerships page explains how we set up checklists, access and reporting for agents, landlords and businesses. For workplace cleaning specifically, see office cleaning.
How do you avoid damage in the first place?
Good working habits prevent most problems before insurance is ever needed. This is what safe handling looks like on a job.
We match products to surfaces. Acidic limescale remover works well on a chrome tap and badly on natural stone. Bleach on a coloured grout line can leave pale patches. Abrasive pads will scratch a ceramic hob or a stainless steel fridge door. Our cleaners use the right product for each surface, and test somewhere hidden when they’re unsure.
We don’t mix chemicals. Some common cleaning products give off harmful fumes when combined. We use one product at a time, rinse between them and keep rooms ventilated, especially small bathrooms with no window.
We work safely at height. Wiping the top of kitchen units or a light fitting doesn’t mean standing on a dining chair. High-level work is agreed in advance and done with suitable equipment. If a task needs specialist access, we’ll tell you rather than improvise.
We move things carefully, or not at all. Heavy furniture, wall-mounted TVs and anything fragile on a high shelf stay put unless we’ve agreed otherwise. If you want behind the sofa cleaned, tell us and we’ll plan it.
If you or your household are sensitive to certain products, ask about eco-friendly cleaning. We’ll check those products suit your surfaces before we use them.
Tell us these things before the visit
Five minutes on the phone can save a lot of trouble. Please let us know about:
- Natural stone, unsealed wood, lacquered or antique furniture
- Delicate fabrics, silk rugs or items you’d rather we didn’t touch
- Anything already damaged, such as a loose tap, a chipped tile or a cracked shower tray
- Pets, and where they’ll be during the clean
- Allergies, or products you prefer us to use or avoid
- Alarm systems, temperamental locks or a front door that sticks
What happens if something gets damaged?
Accidents can happen even with careful people. This is our damage and breakage policy in East London, step by step.
- Our cleaner reports it. If something breaks or gets marked during the visit, your cleaner tells us and tells you. We’d rather you heard it from us than found it later.
- You let us know promptly. If you notice a problem after the clean, contact us as soon as you can, ideally with photos. Leaving it a week makes it harder to establish what happened.
- We look into it. We talk to the cleaner, review the photos and work out what happened.
- We agree the next step with you. Depending on the circumstances, that may mean a repair, a replacement, or a claim through our insurance where it applies.
What insurance doesn’t cover
Insurance covers accidental damage caused by our work. It doesn’t cover:
- Existing wear and damage. Faded carpet, worn worktop edges or a cracked sink that was already cracked
- Items that fail through age. A blind cord that snaps at the first pull, or a loose shelf giving way under normal use
- Damage from undisclosed surface issues. If we weren’t told a floor was unsealed, the outcome may be treated differently
- Marks that cleaning can’t remove. Stains, scorch marks and etching aren’t damage caused by the clean, and no cleaner can promise to lift every stain
Tenants should note this one in particular. An end of tenancy clean works through the agreed checklist room by room, but cleaning can’t repair wear or damage. No cleaner can guarantee a deposit return or an inventory pass.
Keys, access and alarm codes
Access is agreed in advance and handled with care. Before the visit, we’ll agree:
- Who lets the cleaner in, or where the keys are collected from and returned to
- Alarm codes and how to set the alarm on leaving
- Building access for flats and offices, including fobs, concierge desks and loading bays
- What to do if the cleaner can’t get in
Many of our customers in Stratford, Whitechapel and Hackney live in blocks with concierge desks or fob entry. A few minutes sorting this out beforehand stops a cleaner standing outside a locked door.
Common questions about our insurance
Do I need my own insurance when I book a cleaner? Your home or contents insurance is separate from ours, and it’s worth knowing what your policy says. Our cover relates to our work at your property.
Can you name my business on the insurance document? Ask us. Tell us what your landlord, insurer or building manager needs and we’ll confirm what we can provide.
Are your cleaners employed or self-employed? Ask us when you book and we’ll explain how your job is staffed and covered.
What if I’m not home during the clean? That’s common. Access is agreed beforehand, and your cleaner checks the work against the agreed tasks before leaving. If something in scope has been missed, contact us promptly so we can arrange to put it right.
Do you provide risk assessments for one-off domestic cleans? Most homes don’t need formal paperwork, but tell us about any hazards when you book. Commercial sites are a different matter, and we’ll discuss documents as part of the quote.
Ask about cover when you request your quote
If insurance details, vetting or site paperwork matter for your booking, mention it at the start. We’ll confirm what’s in place, agree the scope and price upfront, and plan access before anyone arrives.
